Arrest Biman: Mamata
Mamata Banerjee demanded the arrest of CPM politburo member Biman Bose for his "scathing" remarks against some EC observers in West Bengal.
Nationalist Trinamool Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee on Saturday demanded the arrest of CPI-M Politburo member Biman Bose for his "scathing" remarks against some Election Commission observers in West Bengal and said this amounted to attack on the constitutional body.
"Observers are appointed by the EC. Can a sensible person speak like Bose? Does the CPI-M leader know his jurisdiction? Bose should be arrested," Banerjee told newsmen in Kolkata.
Bose, the ruling Left Front chairman, earlier in the day, accused some EC observers of being biased and said if they "overstepped" their limits, they would be "caught by the collar and thrown into police stations."
Banerjee said "Marxists have not only unleashed terror against opposition parties, but are also threatening the Election Commission which is a constitutional body."
She appealed to EC to ensure that the people in the state could vote in a free and fair manner on May 10. "If the people in J and K and in the insurgency-torn north-east can vote freely, why can't people in West Bengal?" she asked.
