When the health officials asked him to produce his registration certificate, he failed to do so. The team also found empty capsules from his clinic that was functioning in the area with for several years.

The health officials took him to the Handia police station and slammed several cases, under sections 419,420,467, 468 of the IPC, on him. Besides, they kept in lock-up throughout the night and released him on bail after he produced a medical certificate.

The medical certificate stated that sending him jail might cause his death.

Inspector of Handia police station on Sunday said there was no valid reason for releasing him on bail as the crime he committed was of serious nature.

However, police softened their stand on Monday, saying that he got bail on medical grounds. Regarding the fact that the accused would again resort to illegal practice, the inspector said carrying out illegal medical practice did not require any strenuous physical exercise.

A person like him would surely do what he had been doing all these years, he said.

Meanwhile, the team, which carried out the raid, was unhappy with the manner the accused got the bail.

The team is reported to have decided not to conduct any further raid that involved a lot of risks. They also decided to report the matter to the higher authorities. CMO SM Singhvi also expressed surprise at the bail of the quack on the certificate of a doctor. He said a medical board should have decided the nature of disease the accused was suffering from.

Then there are jail doctors who could have looked after him and referred his case to good hospitals, he added.

Accident: Sonu Yadav (22), a resident of Shivkuti area was reportedly hit by a speeding vehicle near Shivkuti on late Sunday night. He sustained serious injuries and was admitted to SRN Hospital.
