The hunt was on for at least 14 missing persons including children who might have drowned in the river Kameng or washed away downstream.

The suspension bridge collapsed on Saturday evening when around 60 trobal people gathered on it to collect a particular edible insect. Half of them survived the 40ft fall into the river.

"The army is helping us locate the missing persons with boats and divers," said East Kameng superintendent of police Kime Aya.
