Ashish Kumar Mitra, Special Secretary in the Union Home Ministry, is likely to succeed RS Mooshahary and be the new BSF Director General.

Mitra, a 1970 batch IPS officer from Uttar Pradesh cadre, was appointed last November as the Special Secretary (Internal Security) to fill the vacancy created after the retirement of Anil Chowdhry on August 31, 2005.
Mitra will retire on September 30, 2008.
Mooshahary, an IPS officer of 1967 batch from Kerala cadre, was to retire from the police service on February 28, but had applied for a voluntary retirement which has been cleared by the government.
