The arrest was made yesterday immediately after the recovery of the body from Naharbari area in the city.

The trader, who had come to Dimapur in Nagaland from Bokajan in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district, was abducted from the city on September 13 and was held hostage at a house in Naharbari area, Dimapur SP Liremo Lotha said.

The abductors initially demanded a ransom of Rs 80 lakh from the victim’s family for his release, which was later brought down to Rs one lakh after negotiation.

Despite the trader’s family agreeing to pay the ransom, the kidnappers murdered the man on September 15 and dumped the body at Naharbari.

The police recovered the body yesterday.

Meanwhile, the abductors asked the family members to bring the ransom money to Khushiabil on the outskirts of Dimapur town, the SP said.

A joint team of Dimapur and Bokajan police arrested two of the five accused when they went to collect the money yesterday.

Search is on to nab the others who managed to fled from the spot, the SP said.
