And many are crediting it to the magic of Bihar strongman Laloo Prasad Yadav.
Bihar strongman Yadav arrived on Monday on a one-day 'peace mission', and it has been violence-free since then.

"Hatred and animosity should stop between the people of Assam and Bihar," thundered Laloo in his usual rustic tone.

Flanked by seven other Rashtriya Janata Dal leaders, Laloo met Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and members of the All Assam Students' Union, which started the campaign against Hindi-speaking people writing tests for railway jobs.

"We have age-old traditional links between the Assamese and the Biharis and at no cost should we allow this bond to break," Laloo said. The visit assumes significance and the Assam government was giving Laloo all the importance and status of a VVIP.

"Laloo Yadav's visit in this hour of crisis would help remove misgivings between the two states," the Assam Chief Minister said. Laloo held the Centre responsible for the violence in Assam that claimed 46 lives.
