A notification has been issued by the state Personnel Department stopping all recruitments in view of the Election Commission's Model Code of conduct in force now.

Any appointment made in violation of the Model Code of Conduct will be dealt with seriously, the sources added.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had earlier directed the state Chief Secretary S Kabilan to inquire into the allegations of back-dated appointments in some government departments.

The opposition Asom Gana Parishad and BJP had alleged before Chief Election Commissioner BB Tandon that the ruling Congress was issuing backdated appointment letters to their party supporters and cadres even after declaration of polls.
