At least 30 hurt as students, police clash in Dhaka

Over 30 persons were injured in clashes between police and students of Bangladesh University of Engineering Technology (BUET) over postponement of exams.

The situation remained tense on Monday after students demonstrated till late Sunday night demanding for postponement of a major exam to better their preparations, eyewitnesses said.

TV reports said some 30 people were injured in clashes where police lobbed tear gas and students pelted stones.

Teachers held captive in their offices by students were freed by ruling party student supporters, private NTV said.

With a huge police contingent on guard, the situation was calm, but tense in the BUET campus adjacent to Dhaka University.
