Atal honoured with Paramacharya Award
The annual award carries a cash prize of Rs 2.5 lakh, a silver lamp, a citation and books on the late 'Pramacharya'.
Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was on Thursday honoured with the eighth Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswati National Eminence Award for "outstanding" public leadership.

The award, instituted by the Mumbai-based South Indian Education Society, was presented to Vajpayee at a simple function at his residence in New Delhi. The ceremony was preceded by chanting of vedic mantras.
The annual award carries a cash prize of Rs 2.5 lakh, a silver lamp, a citation and books on the late 'Pramacharya' of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam in whose memory it has been instituted.
The previous awardees include President APJ Abdul Kalam, former President SD Sharma, former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao, artist MS Subbulakshmi, scientists R Chidambaram, Kasturirangan, MS Swaminathan, RA Mashelkar and CNR Rao, a release from the organisers said.
