Attack on woman officer: Four send to two-day police remand

Four persons, including three constables, who were charged with assaulting a woman officer after she caught them extorting money from truck drivers, were today remanded in two-day police custody by a court here.

Four persons, including three constables, who were charged with assaulting a woman officer after she caught them extorting money from truck drivers, were today remanded in two-day police custody by a court here.

District and Sessions Judge Kalimullaha Khan granted the police remand of constables Ravindra Yadav, Ravidra Sonkar, Manoj Singh and their aide Dharmendra on an application moved by Investigating Officer S P Singh.

According to the charge-sheet, the accused had assaulted Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Kalpana Saxena and dragged her for over a kilometre while fleeing in their car after she allegedly caught them extorting money from truck drivers.

The officer had suffered a fracture in her hand and injuries on her head in the September 2 incident. The three constables have been suspended pending investigations.
