The Urdu, Arabic and Persian quota of the varsity was cancelled after the University attained the central university status last year. The decision of cancellation of the Urdu, Arabic and Persian quota by the AU authorities led to unrest among the students who staged demonstrations to restore the Urdu, Arabic and Persian quota in the varsity. The Urdu, Arabic and Persian quota will be restored only after the approval of the admission committee consisting Dean Arts Prof KG Srivastava, Head of the Psychology Department Prof Janak Pandey, Head of Medieval History Department Prof NR Farooqi, Prof PK Sahoo and Registrar Prof US Rai.

Meanwhile, AU student leader Ziya Kaunen Rizvi, Vijay Dwivedi, and Irshad ullah along with other students on Wednesday took out a procession in jubilation and distributed sweets on the campus over the move for restoration of the Urdu, Arabic and Persian quota. The student leaders claimed that the proposal to restore the quota has been approved by the three-member committee on Wednesday. A large number of students participated in the procession and congratulated Head of Urdu Department Dr Abdul Hameed.
