AU to rope in professionals
ALLAHABAD UNIVERSITY (AU) has decided to avail of the services of a professional architect or a firm of architects to undertake construction and maintenance work on the campus soon.

The varsity will also employ retired central public works department engineers for the purpose.
A decision to this regard was taken at a meeting of the Allahabad University Planning and Development Board held in the committee room of the AU Vice-Chancellor’s office on Saturday, chaired by the V-C Prof Rajen Harshe himself.
The AU authorities decided that advertisements would be released soon so that work can begin at the earliest and the Rs 40 crore sanctioned for 2006-07 by the Centre may be put to best use.
The officials decided to give top priority to amenities for students including construction and repair of toilets as well as strengthening the water supply system on the campus.
During the meeting, it was also decided that some long-term and some short-term projects would be so combined in the annual package that some of the work got completed in one year itself while the rest could be completed within the next few years as more funds made their way to Allahabad University.
Almost all the members of the AU Planning and Development Board, including Prof KG Srivastava, Prof Janak Pandey, Prof JN Bhargava, Prof BP Singh, Dr Avinash Chandra Pandey, Prof PN Mehrotra, Registrar Prof US Rai and AU engineer NK Singh, besides Allahabad University CPIO Prof Amrendra Singh were present on the occasion.
The only notable absentee was the AU finance officer who is out of station at the moment.
