The Union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has been defeated in Udhampur Lok Sabha constituency as the ruling National Conference-Congress alliance appeared to be headed for a disastrous performance in Jammu and Kashmir which sends six MPs to the lower house.

BJP’s Jatinder Singh humbled Azad, former chief minister, with a margin of about 60,000 votes.

In Kashmir valley, People’s Democratic Party was well on course to upset the National Conference’s applecart with NC’s stalwart and Union minister Farooq Abdullah trailing in Srinagar. In Baramulla, PDP’s Mehbooba Mufti was ahead of her NC rival.
