Top cops, despite knowledge of it, turn a blind eye to the SP leader’s anarchy. The extent to which Babloo wields influence was witnessed late Monday night when he barged into the Wazirganj police station. He forced cops to release two auto-lifters on bail in the very next hour of their arrest with three stolen two-wheelers.
Additional SP (West) DK Rai, who was officiating as SSP on Monday since GK Goswami was on leave, could not muster courage enough to defy Babloo’s diktat. The latter left the police station taking the hardcore miscreants with him humiliating ASP DK Rai and his sub-ordinates.
It is not the first time the City SP president has flaunted his influence. Babloo got his associates, Raju Gandhi and latter’s sons Sonu and Monu, released on bail from the Naka police station in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. The trio was arrested in a case of attempt to murder. Enjoying patronage of city SP president, the Gandhis shot at one of their rivals on Monday noon too but the cops now ignore laying hands on the accused for obvious reasons.
Cops at the Wazirganj police station faced the wrath of Babloo after they caught Syed Qamil Hasan of Hata Suleman Qadar, Maulviganj and Amir Amaan Syed of Balaganj, Thakurganj around 11.30 am on Monday. The cops first trapped Qamil moving on a motorcycle near the Health Directorate. The cops revealed that the vehicle was a stolen one.
As Qamil was brought to the police station for interrogation, he revealed name of his aide, Amir. The duo reportedly confessed their involvement in stealing two-wheelers and the cops later recovered two mobikes and a scooter from the possession of the accused. While police were quizzing the duo about other gang members and the stolen vehicles, City SP president Babloo barged into the police station accompanied by over a dozen aides.
Babloo ordered the station officer (SO) to release the two youths immediately.
When SO intimated him about recovery of the stolen vehicles from the possession of the duo, Babloo hurled choicest expletives at the cop threatening him with dire consequences.
The SO informed SP (West) Rai seeking the latter’s help. Though Rai reached the police station, he preferred keeping mum as Babloo and his aides had created ruckus in the senior cop’s presence too.
Finally, Rai had to follow Babloo’s diktats and the two auto-lifters were released from the police station after the formality of a temporary bail.
Later, in a bid to dilute the incident, Rai ordered an inquiry into the matter to be carried out by the CO, Chowk Rajesh Sahni. Instead of initiating action against Babloo, Rai has asked the CO to probe into why the cops did not produce the accused in the court. The senior cops feel that had the accused been sent to the court, Babloo’s fury could have been averted.
