Speaking to reporters after attending a meeting called by the Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy to review the law and order situation, he said, "the bandh is effective, but peaceful".

The police have deployed 160 platoons of state armed reserve police apart from 10 companies of paramilitary force to assist the police in maintaining law and order, he said.

Those who have been staging protests were being taken into custody, he said.

In the city the police arrested about 500 BJP activists led by PC Mohan, MLA, who protested against the tribunal order and were later released, police said.
