Barnala?s son held for raping servant

The servant of Punjab MLA Gagandeep S Barnala had complained to police.

Punjab MLA Gagandeep Singh Barnala, son of Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala, was on Saturday night arrested for raping his maid servant in his MLA hostel residence in Sector-3.

The 45-year-old servant complained to the police that she was raped by the MLA in his residence.

The woman was admitted to the General Hospital Sector-16 at about 2.30 pm for medical examination.

After the preliminary investigation, the Chandigarh police registered a case under Section 376 of the IPC and arrested Gagandeep, a SAD MLA from Dhuri.

Police said they are going ahead with investigations and action will be taken as per law. The 44-year-old MLA is a graduate and is married.

He had been elected MLA for the first time.

Earlier, hectic parleys were on to woo Surjit Singh Barnala, ex-chief minister of Punjab, for formation of a third front in Punjab under his leadership by some of the estranged Akali leaders.
