According to sources a 25-year-old youth, Sikander who was going on his bicycle to meet his sister living in Rustam Ka Bagicha area hit a puppy on his way.

Repeating the usual scene occurring on such occasions at accident sites when the public gathers and imparts immediate justice through mob beatings the local corporator Lal Bahadur Verma who had been a witness to this scene roughed up the youth.

Eyewitness accounts say that Verma used vulgar and abusive language and beat the youth for having hurt the puppy. Residents angry over the behaviour of their corporator went in a delegation to the MIG police and demanded Verma’s arrest.

The police have registered cases against him under Sections 323, 249 and 506 of the IPC. Verma has been seeing bad days and has been facing opposition from his own party members in the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC). Some time back he had a tiff with Women and Child Development Committee incharge Sapna NS Chauhan.

He is said to be in the bad books of Mayor Dr Uma Shashi Sharma who had recently complained against the unruly behaviour of Verma to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organisational general secretary Kaptan Singh Solanki. Many insiders believe that this incident may prove the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back.
