The name for the company's logo was selected through online contest, which the company had started six months back.

"The name Wave, refers to the sweeping changes that Airtel strives to bring towards enriching the lives of its 200 million plus customers in 19 countries across Asia and Africa," Bharti Airtel said in a statement.

Mukesh Chauhan, an engineer working with a company in Noida was declared as the winner of the contest for suggesting the name.

Chauhan has won a vacation of approximately 30 days to Thailand, post his marriage scheduled around October.

Also, five voters selected by the telecom operator will get a Samsung Galaxy Tab each.

The Airtel symbol was unveiled by Bharti Airtel as part of its new brand identity launch in November in 2010.
