Bhatia promises to fight for lawyers? cause
FORMER ADVOCATE-General of UP and member of the Rajya Sabha (RS) Virendra Bhatia said that since he was elected to the RS as lawyers? representative, he would do his best to protect their interests in Parliament.
FORMER ADVOCATE-General of UP and member of the Rajya Sabha (RS) Virendra Bhatia said that since he was elected to the RS as lawyers’ representative, he would do his best to protect their interests in Parliament.
Bhatia was addressing a programme, organised by the law officers on the High Court premises, on Sunday evening. The programme was held to felicitate SMA Kazmi , advocate general and Virendra Bhatia.
Bhatia said that Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav wanted to honour lawyers and judiciary. So the report of the Shetty Commission for judicial officers was implemented in the State. Bhatia said that he would raise his voice in Parliament to protect the lawyers’ interests.
Bhatia also said that there were some black sheep among the lawyers who are tarnishing the image of the legal profession. He urged the lawyers to root out the black sheep in order to maintain the standard and glory of this profession.
Earlier, welcoming Bhatia, Kazmi hoped that he would fight for lawyers’ interests. Kazmi also urged the law officers to prove their worth.
Presiding over the programme, Justice Dr BS Chauhan, senior Judge of the Allahabad High Court, urged the law officers to increase their merit as they were representing the State Government. Besides, he urged the State Counsel to prepare their cases in the best possible manner for the speedy disposal of cases.
On this occasion, Additional Advocate-General Adish C Agrawal also welcomed Bhatia and Kazmi.
Justice Dr Chauhan gave memento to Bhatia and Kazmi. Government Advocate Vijay Shankar Mishra also gave memento to Justice Dr BS Chauhan.
Besides, several Judges and senior advocates of the High Court, others who were present on this occasion included additional advocate general Vidhu Bhushan Singh, chief standing counsel CB Yadav, chief standing counsel-II Vijendra Singh, president of advocates association Satish Trivedi, secretary of High Court Bar Association Rakesh Pandey and several others.
