Amitabh Bachchan was detained for a few minutes at Mumbai airport for carrying a pistol without an appropriate licence on Friday.

The actor, booked on a Mumbai-Pune Jet Airways flight, was carrying the weapon in his check-in baggage. While screening Bachchan’s baggage, airline security staff found the weapon number did not match the licence document. The Bureau of Civil Aviation permits carrying licenced arms on flights. Subsequently, Bachchan decided to deposit the pistol with his personal staff and boarded the flight scheduled to leave at 9.30 a.m.
However, the airport police station has written to the airline demanding an explanation as to why Bachchan was let off without informing them.
Justifying their stand, a Jet spokesperson said the matter was not reported to the police as there was no suspicion.
