The festival was celebrated with zeal in all the major cities of the State including Jabalpur, Gwalior, and Indore. Devotees observed fast and participated in rituals and special worships that were organised in temples. At several places religious processions were taken out in which the beautifully decked tableaux of Lord Shiva were the main attraction.

In Ujjain elaborate arrangements had been made in and around Mahakalehwar to facilitate comfortable darshan to the devotees. People from various parts of the State as well as from outside the State reached Ujjain in large numbers. The darshan began after the ritual of ‘bhasm aati’.

Thousands of devotees visited Bade Mahadev, Gupt Mahadev and Jatashankar temples in Pachmarhi on the occasion of Shivratri. The entire city echoed with the chanting of ‘Har Har Mahadev’ on Friday.

The devotees performed pooja and made offerings at the Bade Mahadev and other Shiv temples. Devotees from across the State reached Pachmarhi to celebrate Shivratri festival. They bathed Shivlinga with milk and water and performed pooja. A few offered trident to Lord Shiva.
