In the light of the scanty rainfall — the state had received just 253.2 mm rain till July 29 this year — the government could put a dozen districts in the drought-hit category. Bihar’s average rainfall for June and July is 496.2 mm.

In a meeting with departmental secretaries, Kumar went through contingency plans for districts experiencing scanty rainfall — Kaimur, Rohtas, Gaya, Bhojpur, Nalanda, Siwan, Saran and Bhagalpur.

IT Minister Anil Kumar on Wednesday described the drought situation in Kaimur district as ‘alarming.’

Sources said the chief minister directed officials to revive deep tube-wells lying defunct due to snags.
