Bihar: Minister faces villagers’ wrath, takes shelter in college

Bihar animal husbandry and fisheries minister Baidyanath Sahni had to face protests from villagers when he went to lay the foundation stone of a petrol pump at Nikashpur in Samastipur, his home district, on Wednesday.

Bihar animal husbandry and fisheries minister Baidyanath Sahni had to face protests from villagers when he went to lay the foundation stone of a petrol pump at Nikashpur in Samastipur, his home district, on Wednesday.

The protesters, armed with lathis and sticks, were opposing opening of a petrol pump on the land of a college in the village under Morba block. They also burnt a few tractors parked on the college campus.

Sahni, who took shelter in a college room to escape the ire of the villagers, alleged hands of the BJP and anti-socials behind the incident.

Some BJP workers and anti-socials indulged in staging violent protest against me when I had gone to lay the foundation stone of a petrol pump in Nikashpur village, the the minister said.

The police escorted the minister safely from the venue to his home, the superintendent of police Babu Ram said.
