The victim, Kusma Devi's tongue was cut in half on Friday by her neighbour Bhagwat Paswan to teach her lesson, they added. "It appears that the incident is because of an old dispute between two families."

The incident took place at Chakyaaz village in Vaishali district, about 50km from Patna.

The woman's husband Indradeo Paswan has lodged a police complaint against the neighbour.

"My wife was first beaten and later her tongue was cut in half," he said.
