Biker killed by speeding car

A speeding Scorpio lost control and crashed into vehicles at TJ Road in Sewri on Sunday, killing one person, reports Shahkar Abidi.

Nadeem Kolkarkar (20), the driver of the Scorpio, has been arrested.

According to the eyewitnesses, the SUV that hit a number of motorcycles, cars and pedestrian, had a passenger who fled after the accident.

Shankar Devre (55) was on his bike when the Scorpio. He died on the spot.

The eyewitnesses said the Scorpio driver lost control as he was drunk and was speeding. The passersby managed to nab the driver, while the other occupant fled from the spot. A footwear shop was damaged badly in the accident.

The police said the car belonged to a shipping company and was registered at Ratnagiri.

Jagdish Mehta (29), a businessman from Govandi, was injured and has been admitted to KEM hospital.

Pravin Rathod, a relative of Mehta, said: “He was kick starting his bike, when the car rammed on him. By god’s grace he survived. We will shift him to a private clinic.”

Police Sub-Inspector A. Damble, of RAK police station, said: “We have registered a case and are investigating it.”
