A bill to prevent the sexual harassment of women at work places will be introduced by the government during the monsoon session of Parliament, Minister of State for Women and Child Welfare Renuka Choudhury said here today.

"This will be the first bill of its kind and the government is bringing it keeping in mind the number of women that will be increasing at work places in future," Choudhury told reporters after meeting Home Minister Shivraj Patil here.

A bill to prevent the sexual harassment of women at work places will be introduced by the government during the monsoon session of Parliament, Minister of State for Women and Child Welfare Renuka Choudhury said in New Delhi on Wednesday.

"This will be the first bill of its kind and the government is bringing it keeping in mind the number of women that will be increasing at work places in future," Choudhury told reporters after meeting Home Minister Shivraj Patil in New Delhi.

She said the number of working women is expected to increase manifold in future and it is the government's duty to provide them with a safe environment.

About her meeting with Patil, she said there were some other bills pending with the government and some acts that need to be amended.

Choudhury said the government was also thinking of bringing in a legislation with tough provisions to prevent the trafficking of women.

"It is not the responsibility of only my ministry but of the government as a whole to respond to this menace. We will be doing our best in countering this," said Choudhury, who holds independent charge of the ministry.
