Culling operation continued in the avian flu-affected villages of South Dinajpur district for the fourth day on Saturday with an estimated 22,398 birds killed so far.

Animal Resource Development employees fanned out to all the affected villages of Harirampur block and the culling target of 32,000 birds would be reached by tomorrow, ARD deputy director Sritanu Maiti said.
Culling operation had initially been sloth due to logistical reasons and apprehension among a section of villagers, but it has gradually picked up momentum.
After the culling operation is over, there would be moping and sanitation operations for two days each, Maiti said.
The outbreak of avian influenza was officially confirmed in the area on the night of February 17.
The affected villages include Barmahar, Cheity, Mahespur, Kakadighi and Altadighi.
