Biswas' eyes donated to medical science

His body would be handed over to NRS Medical College Hospital on Monday afternoon.

The eyes of the deceased CPI(M) politburo member Anil Biswas, who died on Sunday afternoon, were extracted in the night as he had pledged to give his body to students of medical science.

Personnel of the Indian Institute of Opthalmology went to the private mortuary where Biswas' body was kept and extracted his eyes as he had pledged his body at the NRS Medical College Hospital for the use of medical students, hospital sources said.

Biswas, the party's West Bengal secretary, had pledged his body on March 9, 2003.

His body would be handed over to NRS Medical College Hospital on Monday afternoon.
