"As role of police in the killing and subsequent cremation of Laxman Jamuda is suspicious, it should be probed by the CBI," BJP's state unit president Jual Oram who accompanied a five-member central team of the party, said.

Jamuda was killed when the police used batons, teargas and rubber bullets to disperse people opposing displacement at Chandia village.

While the police denied allegation that Jamuda died in the police action, Bisthapan Birodhi Jana Manch, a tribal body opposing displacement, claimed that he did.

Since Jamuda was a bachelor his body was handed over to his nephew Lalmohan for cremation at Puri, but he denied having received it.

Expressing solidarity with the tribals, the BJP team announced that it would raise the matter in Parliament.

The BJP team comprised Balbir Punj, Nishikant Dubey, Bhupinder Yadav, Rudra Narayan Pani and Dharmendra Pradhan.
