The agitators were led by BJP Yuva Morcha leader Praveen Srivastava alias Dhunnu Bhaiyya. Speaking on the occasion, Praveen Srivastava said that the residents of Allahpur, Sohbatiabagh and Alopibagh had been receiving contaminated water supply for the last several months. He said that in some parts the water was so dirty that it could not even be touched.

He said, while every year Jal Sansthan hikes water charges by seven per cent it has failed to supply clean water. He said on February 7, 2006 a memorandum was submitted to the Jal Sansthan general manager highlighting the supply of contaminated water. Though he had assured to do the needful but nothing had been till date.

He warned that if the supply of contaminated water was not stopped in these areas within a fortnight, the Jal Sansthan offices in their areas would be locked and the staff would not be allowed to collect water tax.

The chakka jam started at 11 am and continued for three hours. It was lifted after ACM-I Mahendra Kumar assured that the problem would be set right within 15 days and he would write to GM Jal Sansthan today itself in this regard.

Prominent among those who participated in the protest were Dinesh Singh, Ashok Gupta and Amit Tewari besides many others.
