This has reference to the editorial It’s showtime, folks (August 20). It is astonishing that the Left Front, which has been enjoying real power without any responsibility to the masses, is blackmailing the UPA government. It is threatening to withdraw its support in case the government does not fall in line with its political wishes in the matter of the Indo-US deal. But the government should not succumb to the Left’s pressure and work for national interest.

II

The nuclear agreement with the US is a step in right direction. It appears the Left is playing into the hands of pro-China elements because it is silent on the issue of Chinese collaboration with Pakistan in the field of missile technology and its willingness to help Pakistan in nuclear energy. India should align itself with the US for its own interests. The BJP should also help the government see the bill through and should not play into the hands of the Left parties.
