According to officials, the BMC is likely to earn Rs 1.5 crore per annum only by selling tender documents to contractors. Earlier, this amount was Rs 10 lakh. This will become possible due to uploading of tenders on the BMC’s website- www.bhopalmunicipal.com
Officials said more than 25 contractors were purchasing tender documents for every offer after this experiment. Previous BMC Commissioner Manish Singh had taken the decision to this effect. Earlier, only three tender forms were being sold for every offer.
However, corporators are opposing this decision pleading that this could delay the works. In the traditional way of allotting works, corporators were able to secure the tender for their favourite contractors. Now, they are finding it tough to oblige their contractors, admits a corporator.
However, officials are happy as they are receiving competitive bids for their works. This would also save revenue, as contractors would be ready to carry out works in low cost.
