The man, identified as Chhabi Bardhan (35), belonged to Ratanpur village in Nayagarh district and was a BJD supporter.

Arun Kumar Sahu, the ruling party MLA from Nayagarh, however, described it as a case of suicide while saying that he would want the matter investigated.

Inspector in-charge of capital police station, Harihar Dora said police had registered a case of unnatural death in this connection. The details would be known only after the post mortem, he said.

Kumari Bardhan, wife of the deceased, however, claimed that it was a case of murder as there was no cause for her husband to commit suicide.
