An anonymous call about a bomb being planted in Hitec City, the IT hub on the outskirts of this city, sent police into a tizzy on Saturday morning.

The entire building housing several IT companies was evacuated and policemen accompanied by dog squads and bomb disposal squads searched the premises.

Police said the canteen in Hitec City Cyber Towers, 10 km from Hyderabad, received a phone call that a bomb had been planted in the building and it might go up any time.

The canteen owner immediately alerted a nearby police station, which then rushed forces to conduct a thorough search of the building.

Hyderabad Information Technology Engineering Consultancy (Hitec) City Cyber Tower and the surrounding area, known as Cyberabad, house several IT giants.

Coming close on the heels of a bomb blast in Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore and bomb threats in that city and the recent arrests of terrorists in Hyderabad, police did not want to take any chance and were conducting a thorough search of the building.

The bomb threat also came a few days after intelligence warnings about possible terror attacks on IT parks in Hyderabad and Bangalore. Someterrorists arrested in West Bengal, Rajasthan and Hyderabad had revealed plans of Lashkar-e-Taiba to attack IT parks in the two southern cities.

Police had beefed up security arrangements at key installations here, including Hitec City, after Wednesday's bomb attack in Bangalore that claimed one life and injured at least four. Four suspects involved in the attack were reportedly arrested in Hyderabad on Friday. However, police have not yet confirmed the arrests.
