According to Chandra Prakash, mela incharge of Pustak Mela Samiti (New Delhi) there are rare books on display at 82 stalls set up at the fair.
“There are books on spiritual themes which were out of print for a long time but here we are providing them to the readers. Ram Charit Manas published by Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, deemed university, New Delhi is an exclusive book since all the chaupais have been translated and then described elaborately. This book has been republished and is being sold at a very low price”, he said Further, ‘Saundarya Lahiri’ penned by Adi Shankaracharya is based on the methods of utilising the ‘Devi Upasana’ in one’s life. This is yet another distinguished creation as it is very handy for those who are interested in its English version.
There are also other publications of manuscripts, which were totally out of print, and we are providing them under one roof, said Prakash. In fact, there are four stalls displaying topics on spiritual and religion. These have books published by Rajya Vidya Kendra publishers, Bhagwat Vani Prakashan, Tej Gyan Foundation and others, he added.
“It is more appropriate to say that the themes based on the utility of spirituality in personality development are much in demand. ‘Bachchon ka vikas kaise kare’, ‘Jeevan ke paanch maharahasya’, ‘Life and style’, ‘Simple methods for successful management’ and other such books are adding to the interest of readers.
Besides there are also novels, autobiographies, memoirs, essays, literature for children, books for competitive exams, history, science, astrology and books on varied topics. As such there is something for everyone available here,” added Prakash. The Pustak Mela Samiti has already organised 38 book fairs in different states of the country such as in Uttaranchal, UP, Haryana, Bihar, and Jharkhand and this is its 39th fair at Allahabad. “Till now we have received more than 5,000 visitors and hope that the number will swell till its closing day on November 26,” he said.
