Both the DDCA and the BCCI should apologise to the fans
It is disgraceful that the match between India and Sri Lanka at Ferozeshah Kotla stadium had to be abandoned because of the poor quality of the pitch (India lose at Kotla, December 28). It is the responsibility of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) to ensure that players are provided with at least basic facilities like a good pitch. Isn’t it also the responsibility of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to overlook preparations? The authorities should be pulled up for their failure and apologise to the millions of cricket fans who were let down on Sunday.

There’s still a lot to be done
With reference to the article It is party time for the Congress (Big Picture, December 28), there is no denying that the Congress has significantly contributed towards national development in the past. But more is expected from the party and its senior leadership. Problems like terrorism, the price rise, unstable state governments, loopholes in the judiciary and a weak foreign policy still hamper our growth. It seems that the Congress won the last general elections due to a weak opposition from other parties.

Not in the right spirit
The remarks on Jesus Christ and the spirit of Christmas as stated in Santa & Banta Claus (The Pundit, December 25) are derogatory and objectionable. The editorial could have done without the statement “.....even if all of us are not overwhelmed by the inspiring force of the Christian God and his divine son” for it doesn’t contribute to the the piece in any meaningful way. Further, making fun of the Lord by equating him with fictional jesters Santa and Banta is also in bad taste.

The blame game has begun
Dipankar Bhattacharyya in We also sow what we reap (December 23) provides a valuable insight into the artificial food shortage that has been created by hoarders and selfish politicians. While the common man is being forced to empty his pockets to sustain himself, the government is turning a blind eye to the problem. Instead of coming up with a workable solution to check food hoarding and the price rise, the Centre and state governments are busy passing the buck among themselves.

India and the next decade
With 2009 coming to an end, we hope that the world unites to resolve all crises in the next decade. India has its task cut out for the coming years. From fuelling national growth to preparing ourselves against terrorism to contributing towards climate change, the Indian government has to address various issues to ensure that we become a superpower by the end of the next decade.
