Boy dies of dropsy in UP, 9 of family ill

One boy died; while nine members of the same family have fallen seriously ill due to dropsy-a fatal condition which arises after consuming adulterated mustard oil mixed with deadly argemone mexicana seed.

One boy died, while nine members of his family fell ill due to dropsy — a fatal condition which arises after consuming adulterated mustard oil mixed with deadly argemone mexicana seed.

The boy died at Moti Lal Nehru (Colvin) Hospital on Thursday morning.

As per reports, 10-year-old Neelesh, son of Ashok Kumar of Kalyanpur village in Kaushambi district, died of cardiac arrest
and other fatal condition, due to dropsy.

“We found that Ashok Kumar and his other family members... were suffering from dropsy. They were taking treatment in private hospitals, before we came to about their condition,” said Dr Dayaram Verma, chief medical officer, Kaushambi.

“All their medical reports suggested that they were suffering from dropsy due to consumption of adulterated mustard oil,” he added.
