Think your terrace deserves just a plastic chair or two? Think again. A little attention to the aesthetics can transform your terrace from being a deserted place to your favourite one.

Play with colours “There are a lot of things that one can do to liven up a boring terrace. Bright acrylic paint on the walls, lifts the whole look. One can try going for aquamarine blue,” says Anita Hirani, an interior designer.
A small terrace can also be converted into a peaceful place for meditation. Adding a seating area, a terracotta statue and lots of plants can work well towards this purpose. “Terracotta gives an earthy feel to the terrace. I have used terracotta tiles in my terrace,” says Ankita Mishra, a homemaker.
Right amount of light Lighting plays a big part in setting the mood of any place including a terrace. “One can make shelves in walls and place broken mirrors in it. Lighting a candle in the shelf will increase the aesthetic appeal of the area and will also spread more light than a simple candle,” says Hirani. Depending on the space one can also place a settie in the terrace.
Tips: Place brightly coloured wooden benches to add sitting space, and visual appeal to your terrace. Terracotta looks good and gives the balcony an earthy feel. Foam mattresses covered with faux leather in rich colours is an inexpensive way to do up the terrace. Wind chimes and candles are reliable ways to spruce up the terrace.
