Constable Haripal Singh posted at Bareke outpost on the Indo-Pakistan border near Hussianiwala had called up home before he shot himself with the INSAS rifle issued to him on Sunday morning, they said.

They said he was upset over payment of money for the medical treatment of his daughter, having called home several times and confiding his problems to some of his colleagues.

In another case, Hardyal Singh of BSF's 130 battalion posted at Uggo Ke BOP was found dead with gunshot marks though a BSF official dismissed it as a case of accidental firing.

Such cases had been reported in the past also, especially during the festival season, he said.
