Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Saturday called upon the Brahmins to vote the BSP to power in the coming Vidhan Sabha election. "In turn, the BSP would redress your grievances," she assured them.
Addressing members of 'Bhai-Chara Banao' committee, Mayawati said several years back the Dalits realised that the Congress, the BJP and the Left parties were not concerned about their welfare. "These parties were eyeing the Dalit vote bank to serve their vested political interests."
"Dalits deserted these parties and joined the BSP en masse. During my three terms as chief minister I tried to redress the grievances of the weaker section of society and worked to establish a society based on equality," she said.
"The Brahmins should also realise that their future is not safe in the hands of the Congress and the BJP. Today the problem faced by the upper castes, including the Brahmins, is the same as the one faced by the Dalits. Large numbers of Brahmin youths are unemployed and have become economically weak," she said.
"The governments that came to power at the Centre and in the State in the post-independence period did not work to eradicate poverty and unemployment. Since big business houses were funding the election campaign of these political parties, the problem faced by the weaker section of society was not on their agenda", she rued.
"Under a conspiracy, the rival political parties tried to create a schism between upper castes and Dalits. Now the BSP has decided to bring the Brahmins and Dalits on one platform. If the upper castes extend their support to the BSP in the coming election, it would form the government on its majority", she said.
"Rival political parties tried to create confusion among the Brahmins that the BSP was anti-upper caste.
Today Brahmins are a harassed lot. The fault is yours as you have supported a wrong political party. After coming to power the BSP will redress your grievances. Instead of allowances I would give permanent jobs to the youths", she said.
"You would not only get a position in the organisation but also a place in my ministry. The goondas and mafias who have committed atrocities on Brahmins would be put behind bars. There would be the rule of law in the state under my government", she assured the Brahmins.
"Spread my message all over the state by organising small meetings in towns and villages. Create a cadre in each sector and ensure that the upper castes support the BSP in the coming election", she said.
