Finance minister P Chidambaram said the cabinet was briefed about the SC orders and the resumption of sealing on Wednesday but suggested that there were no decisions to be taken in this context.

One proposal that did come up in course of the informal discussions that followed came from Union science and technology minister Kapil Sibal, who favoured convening an all-party meeting to discuss the developments. Urban development minister Jaipal Reddy is understood to have favoured the proposal too. Shivraj Patil is, however, understood to have expressed his reservations since the issue involved the judiciary.

When law minister HR Bhardwaj was later asked if the government was contemplating any steps to stop sealing, a PTI report quoted the minister saying, "The Supreme Court is the only forum. There is no other forum".
