The Centre on Thursday approved acquisition of 205 acres of land in Gurgaon for setting up the Indian National Defence University (INDU) to promote long-term defence and strategic studies

The Centre on Thursday approved acquisition of 205 acres of land in Gurgaon for setting up the Indian National Defence University (INDU) to promote long-term defence and strategic studies.

The Union Cabinet, at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, decided the land will be acquired in villages Binola and Bilaspur in Gurgaon district of Haryana at a cost of R162 crore.

“INDU will undertake long-term defence and strategic studies and create a synergy between the academic community and government functionaries,” a release said.

The defence university will promote policy-oriented research on all aspects relating to national security. pti
