This was observed at the inaugural function of a three-day workshop on ‘Manuscripts Conservation’ at Bharat Kala Bhawan on the Banaras Hindu University campus here on Monday. Bharat Kala Bhawan, in association with the National Mission for Manuscript, organised the workshop.
BHU Executive Council member Prof Anand Mohan inaugurated the workshop and noted art historian Prof Anand Krishna and dean of National Institute (Deemed University), New Delhi, Prof KK Jain were the main speakers.
The scholars who attended the workshop said a large number of precious manuscripts were getting destroyed due to lack of awareness. They added that a great volume of manuscripts in several languages were being managed by untrained persons, and there was an urgent need to preserve these manuscripts.
Prof Anand Krishna, former director of Bharat Kala Bhawan, said the significance of manuscripts was important in writing the history of a country. He laid stress on the need for greater public awareness about preservation of old manuscripts.
Joint Director of Bharat Kala Bhawan, Dr Naval Krishna said, “We should appreciate the efforts employed, techniques utilised and subjects explored by the writers of these scripts and adapt them in our daily life.”
