The Canada-based volunteers and surveyor Ashley Fraser and Lazina Shamseer admitted that the people were very poor and it would be a difficult task to ensure their schooling. But, the said, they had taken up the challenge.
Talking to mediapersons, they said the survey report would be submitted to the divisional in-charge and later the organisation would decide the number of students who would benefit from scholarships and other facilities. They said the organisation worked for integrated women development and literacy was the first step towards it.
In reply to a question, Lazina clarified that they had no confrontation with government schemes to uplift the standard of primary schools. Admitting that the educational ratio was very poor, she said three teams were working in Gorakhpur, Bhadohi and Mau districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh.
They said local non-government organisation Champa Devi Nari Vikas Sansthan was cooperating with them in identification of the villages and students. They have covered Persia and other villages.
