Case against Nirupam, 2 others for public function

A case has been registered against Congress candidate from the Mumbai North constituency Sanjay Nirupam and MLA P U Mehta for conducting the opening ceremony of a party office in a north west suburb without permission, police officials said.

A case has been registered against Congress candidate from the Mumbai North constituency Sanjay Nirupam and MLA P U Mehta for conducting the opening ceremony of a party office in a north west suburb without permission, police officials said.

The case was registered at the suburban Kandivali police station against Nirupam, MLA P U Mehta and a Congress municipal councillor for carrying out the innauguration function of a party office in Kandivali without permission on Monday, a senior police official from the Kandivali police station said.

"The case has been registered under section 188 of the IPC (disobedience to an order promulgated by a public servant) for the use of loudspeakers and organising a function with a large number of people without police permission," the official said.

The organisers of the function have been also accused of obstructing traffic and exploding fireworks in violation of existing laws, he said. "We have registered the case and now will be approaching the court to take further action against the accused," the official said.
