The investigation has been handed over to the CID wing of the State police that registered a case under sections 467, 471, 507 and 387 of the IPC for 'forgery, using as genuine a forged document, criminal intimidation and putting person in fear in order to commit extortion' apart from Section 67 of the Information Technology Act against unidentified persons, a top police official said. But the police officer denied reports that the woman in the CD had been identified.

Sources said IG (CID) M P Dwivedi would investigate the circumstances surrounding the filming of the CD and its circulation apart from its authenticity and the persons behind it.

Joshi had approached the DGP with the complaint that he was being blackmailed much before the CD issue became public knowledge. The police have registered the case on his complaint after examining the legal and technical issues involved as no other party has yet approached them.
