Luv Kumar (25), hailing from Bihar, was the head cashier in Debenhams Garment showroom in Ambience Mall, Gurgaon.

Police sources said on January 2, Kumar was handed over R18,85,000 to be deposited in the company’s account.

The following day, when the showroom manager cross-checked the account, he was shocked to learn that only R8.5 lakh had been deposited.

As it was Kumar’s weekly off, the manager sent showroom staff to his rented accommodation at DLF Phase-2, Block T.

Kumar's landlord told the officials that he had vacated the house along with his family on January 3.

A criminal case was filed against the accused.

Sources said Kumar had been working in the showroom since September 18, 2010.
