Caste violence claims two lives in Bihar

Two people were killed and as two others seriously injured in caste-related violence at a village in Bihar's Buxar district late on Friday, police said on Saturday.

Two people were killed and as two others seriously injured in caste-related violence in Bihar's Buxar district late on Friday, police said on Saturday.

Unidentified gunmen opened fire at the Bithalpurwa village, killingBihari Yadav and Devmuni Yadav and injuring Paras Yadav and Sardar Yadav of theBalua-Saphi village, Superintendent of Police said.

The miscreants retreated when the villagers raised an alarm on hearing gunshots. Seven empty cartridges have been recovered from the place of occurrence, Khan said.

The SP said one of the injured, Paras Yadav, was an accused in the killing of three persons of backward Khairwar caste at Bithalpurwa about two years ago and last night's incident was suspected to be in retaliation to that. Paras was recently enlarged on bail in the case, Khan said.

Raids are continuing to apprehend the assailants but so far no arrests have been made, he said.
