CBI has taken into custody an Army official, who allegedly tried to bribe an officer of the investigating agency with Rs 3 lakh to wriggle out of a disproportionate assets case.
MKK Nair, hailing from Thiruvananthapuram and attached to the Army Farm in Secunderabad, had allegedly amassed about Rs 2.5 crore worth assets and was under the watch of the probe agency, CBI sources said.
In an attempt to get a clean chit from the CBI, Nair allegedly offered to give Rs 3 lakh to Inspector Darwin, who was probing the case.
The CBI official reported the matter to the higher officials, who decided to lay a trap and nab him red handed.
Accordingly, Nair was asked to come to a guesthouse with the money on Tuesday. Though he turned up, he asked the inspector to accompany him to another place where he would hand over the money.
As Nair handed over the amount, he was arrested by the CBI officials. The accused was produced before a CBI special court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
