The scam came to light in August when non-saleable government land of 771 acres in Deoghar district was allegedly converted into saleable land in connivance with state officials.

"It seems that inter-state mafias were involved in the land scam. We have sought every detail related to the scam and if needed, a CBI probe cannot be ruled out," Munda told reporters here.

There are allegations of land mafias changing the actual records to facilitate the sale of land.

Deputy Commissioner of Deoghar MS Meena Aug 18 had recommended a probe.
